I was ten the day Kennedy was assassinated. I remember the day and following days clearly.
I was in fifth grade at a Catholic school when the Mother Superior came on the public address system (know to us the PA!). She informed us what happened and our teacher dragged out the TV and turned it on. I don’t think we did anymore school work that day.
In the days that followed conspiracy theories abounded. Kennedy was killed because he was Catholic. Lyndon Johnson did it to take power. Lee Harvey Oswald was the dupe of someone and then he too was killed by Jack Ruby. That’s when the mafia got the blame and that’s pretty much how it’s been since November 22nd, 1963.
Personally, and while I find it all interesting from a history point of view I don’t really have a favorite theory except to note this.
Lee Harvey Oswald was a card-carrying Marxist of the Communist variety. Whatever other motive may have been involved by others (if there is a conspiracy) Oswald’s Communism was all the motive he needed to shoot Kennedy.

Whatever else one might say about JFK he was a Cold War Warrior. True, he botched the Bay of Pigs but he also stood down the Russians who were putting missiles in Cuba. It is true that it cost us something in Turkey but to me that’s besides the point. The naval blockade appeared to be real.
It was also Kennedy who escalated the Vietnam War and whatever else we might think of that fiasco the motive was to stop Communism or what was known then as the “domino effect.”
In other words if Communists were behind Oswald somewhere along the line no one with any brains would be surprised.
At the end of the day to use that over used cliché it was Oswald the Marxist Communist who pulled the trigger (or a trigger if you do not buy the single shooter theory).
And Marxists are leftists. They are statists, socialists of various shades and often they are Communists so it’s particularly galling to see left-wing bloggers and politicos (and the NYT) ignore the leftist Marxist connection and somehow pin it on “early Tea Party” or others on the political right.
Sadly, the low information voter with zero knowledge of history will buy the narrative hook line and sinker even as they really have no clue who JFK was or even Lee Harvey Oswald.
And that’s the way I see it.
